Blog ends….club goes on ?

Well, the 0-2 loss against Port Vale leaves us with 1 point from 7 games…..ugly, almost beyond comprehension. The simple fact is that you cannot off load your pros, pull in some young kids, basically off the streets, and expect hem to compete at league level.

It is astonishing to think that at the start of the season just three years ago, the Pilgrims were expecting a successful run, perhaps even a challenge for promotion to the Premier League. The previous season we had finished a respectable 10th.

Just over three years later the club is in administration and the team sits at the very bottom of the League Football standings…..with non-league soccer probable next season, assuming that there still is a club next season.

As an aging fan, who watched the club in their heyday and saw every home game from about 1963 to 1972 then went to University and then moved up north in 1976 and then to the USA in 1984….my actual contact with the club has diminished.

It is now at the point that there is little I can add through this blog…..and this will be my last posting on this particular blog site. Send a comment in if you would like to take on the plymarg.wordpress URL and we can arrange a transfer…

So sad and ugly. Dealing with the interwoven companies (I think there are at least nine!) that are both investors and/or operators of PAFC and Home Park must be something of a nightmare for the administration team and a deterrent to potential buyers….Presumably, if the club is dissolved, any new professional team would be starting from scratch….exactly what league would they likely get entry into ?

What can you say…..there is nothing left, except simple survival…..so we can play in League 2 next year and begin a long and very slow recovery….to be blunt, the results on the field no longer matter, we need a miracle in the Boardroom.

PAFC appointed an ‘administrator’ yesterday, moving the club one step closer to insolvency. We need help, and I speculate that there is someone out there who grew up as an Argyle fan in Plymouth (me) , emigrated to USA (me), and made a fortune (not me). If this is you, here is your chance to pay back for all those great times at Home Park…..

Well, after being in a state of denial for months, (causing this site to go dormant) it seems the unthinkable has now been avoided. Presumably things will improve, albeit slowly, from here…..and future generations will be able to cheer on the Greens.

With distractions such as Mariner (now gone back to the MLS), the 2018 World Cup and ’The End Of Days’ behind us….let’s hope we can start to get back to something approaching normal.

2010 September Arctic Ice Minimum Sets Record.

The arctic sea ice extent appears to be at or very close to its 2010 summer minimum, and will soon start to grow again as winter sets in. Total sea ice extent has dropped to just below 5 Million sq km. (Interestingly, this is very close to the median projection of the various scientific group estimates for this year).

This makes it the third lowest summer minimum in sea ice extent (area covered by at least 15% ice) in the record going back to the late 70′s. However, combine this data with the arctic sea ice volume data from PIOMAS and we can confidently say that the total volume of arctic ice, right now, is the lowest seen in the last 30+ years. It may or may not also be the lowest volume since the start of the Holocene interglacial some 12,000 years ago and if that is the case, it may even be the lowest amount since the end of the Eemian interglacial some 110,000 years ago.

However, the arctic has a complex and dynamic weather system and short-term transitory periods of warmer weather over the arctic ocean may have occurred on the decadal scale during various stages of the present Holocene period. That might have resulted in ice volume loss and extended regional sea exposure, and there is some geological and biological fossil evidence to suggest this. Of course, it is one thing to suffer the variations inflicted on us by natural variability and quite another to directly disrupt the climate (e.g. injecting additional CO2 into the atmosphere) and initiate what will be a persistent and hard to stop global temperature increase

Argyle 0 – 3 Peterborough.

Should probably leave it at that. With transfer deadline looming, we are looking like a team soon to be in deep trouble. Judging by what we have seen in the first four games we are more likely looking at a desperate relegation battle than anything resembling a promotion push. It is all a little tough to take right now.

Three points for the win. We will take them. We must also take note that we were clearly the better team for only 15 minutes of this game, and we may be far from the juggernaut in this division we thought we might be…..but at least we were top of the table for about 2 hours. Await the first game on the new rubber/grass pitch.
